Desk Report:
Police have rescued KM Mamunur Rashid, who went missing from Turag in the capital, unharmed. He was rescued from a mosque in Sector 1 of Purbachal in the capital on Friday (September 26) afternoon. He was admitted to the hospital after feeling unwell. Meanwhile, the police said that there are inconsistencies in his statement about his disappearance after his rescue.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of Uttara Division of DMP Md. Mohidul Islam (Additional DIG) confirmed this information.
Md. Mohidul Islam said that no injury marks were found anywhere on Mamun’s body. He was not beaten. He was only slapped twice for the mobile password. He himself said that he was also fed properly.
When asked about the kidnapping, Mohidul Islam said, “His wife told us that Mamun usually wears a lungi when he goes out for a walk. But that day he went out wearing pants and a Punjabi. Since then his mobile phone has been switched off. Later that day a missing person report was filed.’
Mohidul Islam said, ‘Since Mamun was a July fighter, we have taken the matter seriously. We have searched all the CCTV cameras in the area. Only one CCTV camera has seen him going in an auto. He got there himself. No one forced him.’
Mohidul Islam further said, ‘Later on investigation, we found four-five Facebook pages. We found many mobile numbers. The day before yesterday, a post was made on one of his Facebook pages. It was also deleted. That page was also logged into his wife’s mobile phone. We started the investigation by combining all the facts.’
During the interrogation of Mamun, DC Mohidul said, ‘After leaving home that day, he got into an autorickshaw. There were three other people in that autorickshaw. The three of them told him that they were going to buy raw materials from the market. He asked for money there many times, so he asked me to go. But Mamun did not know those three. But they knew him.’
The DC further said, ‘After going there, a micro came. Later, they took him in that micro. They took him and tied him up. They also fed him properly. This morning, they also gave him breakfast. Then we asked Mamun, there are many people in the market, why didn’t you shout and make noise?’
DC Mohidul said, ‘We are interrogating him. We will interrogate him further. His words seem inconsistent to us. We will know that if we ask him more carefully.’
Meanwhile, the father of the missing Mamun, Md. Sofi, said, ‘My son is ill. When he recovers, he will be able to tell the rest. I have not asked him about the disappearance, nor can I. There are people from the administration, they have asked, they can tell.’
It is worth noting that KM Mamunur Rashid, former joint convener of the Turag Police Station of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and NCP convenor candidate, went missing from the Kamarpara area of Turag on the morning of September 22. On the same day, his wife Khadija Akhter filed a missing person’s report at the Turag Police Station.
